Photo and Artwork

Scanning & giclée Printing

A friendly one stop shop for all forms of picture framing, we always look to offer the best possible service we can for our customers.

We are often asked if we are able to “print” or “reproduce” photos and artworks. Well, yes we can. It’s something that we fulfil in-house to our own professional high standards for quality and customer service.

A Service Tailored to You

Whether it’s a treasured family photo or your latest artwork you want reproduced, our years of top quality framing has shown us that the way in which images are reproduced is just as important as the finished frame. Not only that, we know you would want a reproduction as close to or better than the original.

So, we take the time to talk through with you what you need. Whether it is a photo, logo, badge or perhaps a collection of sketches, acrylic / oil paintings, water colours or a large quality fashion, wild life, landscape or photograph. We can review the piece and discuss how you would like the image reproduced.

Image Scanning and Editing

We will always treat your treasured photos and pictures with the utmost respect and confidentiality. Once we have completed any work, unless you say otherwise, we will permanently remove your images from our editing services (computers).

Image Scanning

Taking the greatest care of your originals, we can use a “CCD” based flatbed scanner for digitisation. Note, most “off the shelf” printers nowadays come with a cost effective “CIS” type scanner built in. Using a dedicated (generally more expensive) “CCD” scanner gives us better image and colour accuracy (essential for accurate editing and reproduction). Of course, once scanned, if you want the digitised images for yourself, we can supply those to you as well.

Image Editing and Colour Matching

As part of our service offering, we can help with any revisions or enhancements you need for your digital imagery. Perhaps you have a creased and damaged photo you’d like repaired, an image with certain elements you’d like altered or removed, or an artwork you want resizing and altered but need the colours during reproduction accurately matched to the original. We can do this for you.

Selecting the Right Materials

Anyone that has used our picture framing service will know we are passionate about delivering the best results we can. It’s not just about the design, it’s about the skills and techniques we employ to deliver a first class visually appealing and conservation focused picture. This is the same for our digital scanning and Giclée printing facilities.

Papers

Fine Art “Natural”

A premium cotton based paper (also available in a textured form).

A natural warmth to this paper makes it ideal for artwork reproduction.

A heavy paper delivering a quality reproduction in terms of looks as well as feel.

Fine Art “Bright”

This paper offers a bright white background to enhance colour and light reproduction.

Fine Art “Smooth”

A bright premium cotton based paper rolled smooth.

This paper is ideal for photo matte (non glossy) reproduction and non textured artworks (sketches, ink drawings and paintings).

This is our default choice for non glossy photo reproductions.

A heavy paper delivering a quality reproduction in terms of looks as well as feel.

Semi Gloss “Lustre”

A very bright paper with a satin slightly textured sheen.

This paper is ideal for photo-reproduction in both black and white and colour.

A moderate weighted “photo” paper delivering a quality reproduction where the semi-gloss nature helps disperse light but still enhance the shading or colour of your photo.

Display Board

Very thick board for print display purposes.

Gloss

A very bright paper with a gloss shine.

This paper is aimed at photo or poster reproduction.

A lightly weighted “photo” paper delivering a quality reproduction where the glass (wet looking) nature of the paper enhances the colour of your image.

Canvas

A specialist material simulating that of picture canvases. A subtle textured surface allows for that canvas look and good light and shade reproduction.

Printer Inks

We use a professional “Giclée” printer with pigment based archival inks that give you a top quality reproduction that is stable and long lasting on the aforementioned variety of professional papers.

“Great experience with Andover Framing - Their giclée prints are absolutely stunning—sharp details, vibrant colours, and high-quality paper that truly captures the essence of my artwork. The team were incredibly helpful, offering great advice on paper choices and ensuring my prints came out perfectly. … I highly recommend them!”

An End to End Approach

Rather than one price for all image scanning, editing and printing, much like our much loved picture framing, we prefer to tailor the requirements to ensure our fees are fair and reasonable.

Depending upon your needs and wishes, digital editing and printing varies from reasonably quick (“here’s my photo file, I’d like it enlarged and printed on semi-gloss photo paper”) to quite long (“Here’s a small portrait photo of my grandfather - It’s quite damaged but I’d like it scanned, repaired, colour matched and enlarged on to matte photo paper”) in time taken for us to complete for you.

We believe it’s important we take these into consideration to give you a fair price. These are the factors we consider.

Our Reproduction Process

Original Image Source

  • Are you supplying the digital image (e-mailing us)?

  • Are you needing an original image digitised (scanned)?

Enhancement Needs

  • Is there light, medium or heavy damage (creases, scratches and marks) that need correcting or restoration?

  • Are there things you wanted added, removed or moved in the image?

Printing Needs

  • Do you need an accurate colour match to an original
    (if scanned)?

  • Would you like to see test prints for colour matching before printing?

  • What paper type would you like used?

  • What size do you want the printed image to be?

  • How many copies do you need?

When the work is done

  • Do you want the final digital images sent to you by e-mailed (or other internet service)?

  • Do you want the final digital images on a (USB) memory stick?

  • Would you like the printed images mounted and perhaps framed?

So how much will it cost?

We have always made sure our prices reflect fairly the materials and time we take to deliver a trusted professional service and final product to our customers. Here are some examples:

  • A popular “standard” photographic size for mounting and framing (254x204mm).

With the photo emailed to us from you, the charge for this would be £4.80 (inclusive of VAT)

  • If the damage is minor (perhaps some creases and small marks on the print).

For this job, you will need the image scanned, time spent repairing and final printing on (say) the matte paper.

The cost for this would be £27.00 (inclusive of VAT).

This broken down as £6.00 for the print, £21.00 for the scanning and repair work.

  • In this example, you are looking to get your latest water colour artwork printed into a series of Limited Edition prints. You want to match size, colour and use a natural fine art paper. Whilst your intention is to perhaps limit this edition to 100 copies, you only want an initial run of 5 giclée prints. You would also like a copy of the final scanned image on a memory stick.

This would cost you £118.20 (inclusive of VAT).

This is broken down as £39.00 for the printed copies, £7.80 for the scanning and £31.20 for the time and materials used to accurately colour match (before final printing) and £19.20 for a copy of the final digitised image on a new memory stick.
